MetroCityLife exists because choosing where to live is one of the most consequential decisions a person makes — and the information that supports that decision is scattered, paywalled, anecdotal, or out of date. We consolidate the practical, decision-useful intelligence in one place: cost-of-living indices, salary benchmarks, suburb-level housing context, livability scoring, curated rankings, and relocation playbooks. All of it is free to read, transparently sourced, and grounded in a published methodology.
We write for the actual decision-maker: the professional weighing a job in another city, the family planning an international move, the student choosing where to study, the early-career remote worker scoping a cheaper base. Not for advertisers, not for governments, not for tourism boards.
What we publish
City profiles cover 30+ major global metros across Oceania, Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, South America, and Africa, with consistent indicators across cost, salary, housing, safety, transport, healthcare, education, climate, and lifestyle. Cost-of-living guides cover 15 deeply, with full monthly budgets for student, single, couple, and family households. Suburb guides cover 20 cities at the neighbourhood level. Rankings cover 12 dimensions, each computed deterministically from the underlying dataset.
Beyond the structured data, we publish narrative guides on relocation logistics, salary versus cost trade-offs, and the lived experience of choosing a city. Everything we publish is original, written and reviewed by a named author, and updated on a defined cadence.
How we work
Data comes from a combination of public sources (statistical agencies, transport authorities, real estate platforms, official cost-of-living benchmarks), aggregated indices (where applicable and transparent), and editorial verification. We document the index construction in our methodology page and the editorial process in our editorial policy.
We are independent. We do not accept paid placements in rankings, paid promotion in city profiles, or sponsored content disguised as editorial. If a commercial relationship is ever introduced, it will be labelled clearly on the relevant page and kept separate from editorial decisions.
